COVID-19 Information
COVID-19 is a extremely contagious disease and can quickly spread from person to person. Most individuals who become infected with COVID-19 experience respiratory issues, sometimes similar to a common cold or flu. Factors such as age and pre-existing health conditions can cause symptoms to vary in severity from person to person.
The majority of people who contract COVID-19 will have mild symptoms and can recover without medical intervention. However, in more severe cases, medical attention or hospitalization may be required. In the most extreme cases, death is possible.
COVID-19 is known to spread through liquid particles and droplets that are released by an infected person. These particles can result from everyday activities like coughing, sneezing, breathing, and talking, among others.
Latest COVID-19 Guidance
As the threat from COVID-19 has become more like that of other common respiratory viruses, CDC has issued Respiratory Virus Guidance, rather than additional virus-specific guidance. This brings a unified, practical approach to addressing risk from a range of common respiratory viral illnesses, such as influenza and RSV, that have similar routes of transmission and symptoms and similar prevention strategies.
The following graphic summarizes CDC’s Respiratory Virus Guidance:
