If you are interested in the Maternal Child Health Program or need support from a CLC, please call (315) 539-1920, Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm.

The Seneca County Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program provides new and expectant parents and families with education and support in order to improve health outcomes for women, children, and infants.

The Maternal Child Health Program provides educational materials and support for families during pregnancy, after delivery, and during breastfeeding. The education and support services offered by our MCH program includes:

  • Prenatal and postpartum education
  • Emotional support
  • Local resources/referrals to other health professionals or programs
  • Newborn education and support services including but not limited to:
    • Infant care and safety
    • Safe sleep/SIDS
    • Growth and development
    • Infant and child car seats for eligible families

 

Additionally, we have Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) on staff who are available to provide breastfeeding education and support through visits here at the Health Department or through a phone call. The education and support offered by our CLCs includes:

  • What to expect
  • Breastfeeding positions
  • Proper latching
  • Pumping and proper milk storage
  • Problems and troubleshooting

 

Breastfeeding in the Workplace

New York State Labor Law Section 206-C protects your right to breastfeed in the workplace. For information on breastfeeding in the workplace visit Breast Milk Expression in the Workplace | Department of Labor (ny.gov).

Have You Heard Of Baby Café?

A Baby Café is another free resource available for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers to share their experiences with other mom’s while having additional access to support from CLC’s.

Currently Seneca County does not have a Baby Café; however, the Finger Lakes Breast Feeding Coalition is now offering a virtual Baby Café options. You can find more information about the virtual Baby Café below.
